Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to install anything on my customers' servers?
No. Obfuscura does not require any PHP extensions, PECL modules, or server modifications. Our runtime loader is a single PHP file your customers include with a standard require statement. It works on shared hosting, VPS, Docker, AWS, and any environment running PHP 8.0+.
How does Obfuscura compare to legacy PHP encoders?
Traditional encoders require a compiled C extension on every server that runs your code. Their licensing tools are often sold as separate products with additional fees. Obfuscura eliminates all of that: pure-PHP loader, licensing included in every plan, browser-based dashboard, and full API access. No desktop software, no server extensions, no add-ons.
What happens when my customers' servers can't reach the license API?
Obfuscura includes configurable offline grace periods. If the validation API is unreachable, encoded files continue to work for a period you define (default: 72 hours). Your customers are never locked out by temporary network issues or scheduled maintenance.
Is there a free trial?
Every plan includes a 14-day free trial with full access to every feature. No credit card is required to start. At the end of your trial, choose a plan or your account pauses until you subscribe.
Can I switch plans at any time?
Yes. Upgrade or downgrade from your dashboard at any time. Upgrades are prorated for the remainder of your billing cycle. Downgrades take effect at the start of your next billing period. No penalties, no lock-in.
Do encoded files stop working if I cancel my subscription?
Encoded files already distributed to your customers continue to work for the duration of their license validity. You will not be able to encode new files or issue new licenses after cancellation, but existing deployments are unaffected.
What does the Lifetime license include?
The Lifetime license is a one-time $499 payment that gives you permanent access to everything in the Professional plan — 10 projects, unlimited encoding, 500 active licenses, CI/CD API access, anti-debug protection, and Stripe automation. It includes 12 months of priority support and all platform updates released during that period. After 12 months, you can optionally renew support at a discounted rate, but the platform access never expires.
Can I upgrade from a monthly plan to Lifetime?
Yes. Purchase the Lifetime license at any time and your monthly subscription will be canceled automatically. Any remaining time on your current billing cycle is credited toward the purchase.
Can I protect WordPress plugins and themes?
Yes. Obfuscura is tested with WordPress, WooCommerce, and all major plugins. PHP files are encoded while readme.txt, stylesheets, JavaScript, and block editor assets pass through untouched. Domain-locked licenses prevent unlimited installations.
Do you support Laravel, Symfony, and other frameworks?
Yes. PHP files (controllers, models, service providers, middleware) are encoded. Framework-specific files remain unencoded for compatibility. Your project structure stays intact.
What PHP versions are supported?
PHP 8.0 through 8.4, including all modern syntax: enums, fibers, readonly properties, intersection types, and DNF types.
Is there a per-server or per-customer fee?
No. Your plan covers unlimited encoding runs and unlimited deployment targets. The only limits are projects and active licenses, which scale with your plan tier. There are no hidden per-server, per-seat, or per-encode charges.
